AbstractA project in collaborative teacher-based research was undertaken at Madison Area Technical College in Wisconsin as a background study for eventual implementation of teacher research in the Adult Basic Education (ABE) classroom. Personnel involved included an individual who served as both a director and consultant and five part-time teachers. The teachers attended a conference on teacher-based research, collected resources through online searches, and met together for collaborative planning and sharing of research. The teachers agreed that students should be informed about the research plans early in the process. Issues identified in the series of project meetings included the following: (1) finding a research question and remaining on the research timeline; (2) sharing research through publication and presentation; (3) student attendance in ABE classes; (4) confidentiality; (5) instructor isolation and collegial support; and (6) instructor time and support. A plan and timeline for conducting the research was developed, but the pilot study was not funded. (The annotated bibliography of 47 citations developed during the preliminary project is included in this report.) (KC)
