Abstract | This paper outlines a curriculum for young children that emphasizes conflict resolution and social development. It discusses the causes of violent behavior among children and describes activities and recommends children's literature on conflict resolution that can be used in the classroom. Several activities are examined, including role-playing activities, the use of conflict incidents to teach lessons on conflict resolution and appropriate social behavior, and games. Specific advice is also provided to teachers on how to instill prosocial behavior in young children. An annotated list of 60 children's books on conflict resolution and prosocial behavior is included. An annotated list of 66 books to be used in bibliotherapy are also included, and focus on specific issues such as divorce, adoption, death, siblings. (MDM) |
