AbstractThis book, part of a Mexican series of instructional materials, is directed toward people over the age of 15 who are interested in beginning, continuing or finishing their basic education. It explains the pedagogical model developed for adult education in Mexico based on the following features: (1) the content of the textbooks must be useful for the adult's daily life; (2) the language of the textbooks must be easy to understand; (3) the students can apply what they have learned to the benefit of their family, workplace or community; and (4) the books can be useful to other members of the student's family. Part I of the model focuses on mathematics and the reading and writing of Spanish; Part II continues with language and mathematics and also includes: education for family life, community life, the workplace, and citizenship. The curriculum aims to improve skills in reading, writing, oral expressive and basic mathematics calculation. The role of the student advisor and the examination process are explained.
