AbstractThis report presents data from a follow-up survey of new physics graduates who entered the job market in 1993, extending findings first presented in the American Institute of Physics' Bachelors Degree Recipient Report in February 1995. It documents the rising unemployment rate among new physics bachelors and Ph.D. recipients since 1989, as well as the increasing number of undergraduates who have opted for graduate studies and Ph.D.s who have taken postdoctoral appointments. Also documented are the rising incidence of underemployment, temporary, and part-time employment among new physics bachelors and Ph.D. recipients actively seeking employment. Demographic data on new masters and Ph.D. graduates in physics and astronomy are also provided. The proportion of women among Ph.D. recipients has been rising slowly for several years, and that the number of non-U.S. citizens receiving physics Ph.D.s continues to increase significantly. (MDM)
