AbstractThis guide is intended to help home economics teachers develop an issues-based curriculum using the home- and life-management content. The guide is intended to help teachers identify issues, teach process skills, and then apply those process skills to issues (content). The guide consists of five sections. Within each section, short discussions written by home economics teachers are followed by sample lesson plans and learning activities. A blank lesson plan form is also included. The first four sections cover the following topics: getting started; learning process skills first; applying process skills to identified issues in content areas (for example, employment, healthy family characteristics, life cycle roles, money management and budgeting, special needs students, and accountability); and classroom teacher experiences. The final section contains additional resources, such as quotations from educational leaders in support of teaching process and thinking skills; examples of objectives, goals, and outcomes in issue and process-based curricula; learning plan checklists; and seven references.
