Abstract	This study, written in Spanish, compared attitudes of students (N=302) and faculty (N=28) at five institutions of higher education (two public and three private) in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The study explored first, whether respondents believed there are significant quality differences between private and public universities and, second, what factors, in their opinion, determine higher educational quality. A review of local and national newspapers also examined what educational quality means to various interest groups (teachers, parents, educational authorities, researchers, and employers). This review concluded that there was no unidimensional measurement for educational quality with its appraisal depending heavily on individual values and expectations as well as the relative importance given to each element of the educational process (e.g., curriculum, faculty, institutional organization, measurement of results, and available resources). Data obtained from the questionnaire also supported this conclusion. Neither students nor academic staff perceived private education as being of higher quality than public education. In fact, a preference for public education was indicated. (DB)
