| Abstract | This book profiles 66 women who made significant contributions to American education from the early 19th to the late 20th century. Profiles are arranged alphabetically and each opens with an introductory paragraph summarizing the subject's importance. This is followed by a 6- to 10-page profile written by a scholar with special expertise on the particular educator, the period in which she lived, and the educational field in which she worked.
