Abstract | This volume presents descriptions of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) as it is being applied at 25 institutions of higher education. It offers 25 different perspectives on use of the strategic framework, and provides numerous ways to think about issues confronting campuses that decide to embrace CQI. An introduction outlines CQI's beginnings in W. Edwards Deming's Total Quality Management movement, and examines obstacles to CQI and where CQI is heading. Each of the 25 descriptions considers the institution's reasons for embracing CQI, getting started, the strategic framework, obstacles, key successes, academic activity, faculty resistance to CQI, next steps, and hindsight. The 25 institutions described are: Babson College (Massachusetts), Belmont University (Tennessee), Cornell University (New York), Dallas County Community College District (Texas), Delaware County Community College (Pennsylvania), El Camino College (California), Fordham University Graduate School of Business (New York), Fox Valley Technical College (Wisconsin), George Mason University (Virginia), Georgia Institute of Technology, Lamar Community College (Colorado), Maricopa County Community College District (Arizona), Marietta College (Ohio), Northwest Missouri State University, Pennsylvania State University, Rio Salado Community College (Arizona), Rochester Institute of Technology (New York), St. John Fisher College (New York), Samford University (Alabama), Southern College of Technology (Georgia), University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, University of Tampa (Florida), and University of Wisconsin-Madison.
