| Abstract | "A Computer for Every Teacher" was a project of the Indiana Department of Education to provide each teacher and administrator in four schools with a computer and printer for personal and professional use. This equipment was accompanied by software and realistic amounts of training. Its focus was to improve teacher productivity and to enhance teacher professionalism with the long-range goal of improving student performance. This evaluation study was conducted two years into the project. In 1992, researchers conducted site visits to interview participants, gather work samples, gather diary forms detailing computer use, and administer a follow-up questionnaire to be compared with a baseline study completed in 1990. Three kinds of outcomes on the schools and on the individuals were found: productivity, professionalism, and empowerment. A list of issues and lessons to be considered for future assessments is included, as well as recommendations for continuing the use of technology in the participating schools and developing similar projects in other schools.
