Abstract | This college-level textbook, entirely in Arabic, is designed to help students develop specific reading skills, namely, skimming and scanning. Users should have had at least 30 quarter hours of Arabic instruction previously. The reading selections and tasks are intended to promote reading fluency by also increasing reading speed. Learner tasks also include modifying the form of information in the reading selections, for example, transforming biographical information into a resume or advertisement. Issues of grammar and style are not addressed overtly, but are incorporated into exercises. Each unit of the textbook contains one or more reading selections, followed by comprehension exercises and questions, and vocabulary exercises. A glossary of new vocabulary terms is included in each unit. Suggested classroom activities to accompany the textbook are mainly oral, revolving around the topic or topics contained in the reading material. (MSE) |
