Abstract | Students learn little about some aspects of U.S. history, such as the history of science, technology, art, religion, and everyday life. What they most often learn about are the "big events" of political and military history. This document seeks to address that problem through its 30 lessons. The first two lessons, "There's an Old Trunk in My Attic," and "Family History," seek to motivate interest in the study of history. The third is a community research study. Lessons 4 through 30 look at aspects of various periods, or events from an interdisciplinary perspective that had a great impact on those times. Among the lessons are "Living in a Puritan Town"; "The President's Palace"; and "Kwanzaa: A Cultural Celebration." Each lesson includes a brief introduction, a list of objectives, indications of interdisciplinary curriculum links, the estimated time for completing the lesson, and a list of necessary materials. The lessons also present a step-by-step listing of procedures, suggestions for student evaluation, and recommendations for further reading. (SG) |
