Abstract | This bilingual guide for Khmer-speaking parents presents parenting information to supplement a course in English as a Second Language. It focuses on topics parents must deal with in meeting the needs of their children. Vocabulary and practice drills are presented for activities in the following areas: (1) education and dealing with the school system; (2) parenting; (3) nutrition; (4) mathematics; (5) health; (6) safety; and (7) citizenship. The section on education provides information on school organization, registration, forms that must be completed, communication with teachers, and reading student report cards. The parenting skills emphasized are those of interacting with children and of coping with systems that can have an impact on children. In most instances, parallel English and Khmer exercises are provided. (SLD) |
