Abstract | This program improvement guide is designed to assist district and school level interdisciplinary planning teams to improve career/vocational programs for students with disabilities. Its focus is on the integration of best practices within the educational program continuum to achieve positive student outcomes. The guide includes three sections. Section I is an introduction that contains a brief rationale for using the guide, a list of persons who should use it, a description of how it should be used, and a description of benefits from using it. Section II provides detailed steps of three phases of an interdisciplinary team process for making improvements in the delivery of career/vocational services to youth with disabilities. The three phases are team building, program improvement, and action planning. To assist the team leader and members of the planning team, each phase consists of a brief overview, then activities and space for the team to document its work. Appendix I contains worksheets. Appendix II consists of Best Practice Area Helper Sheets. Each Helper Sheet focuses on a designated Best Practice Concept. A definition of that concept and a listing of attributes follow. Section III has been provided for team leaders and members to assemble their own resources within each of the best practice areas as abstracted in Appendix II. Materials to be included are suggested.
