Abstract | One of the more enigmatic issues of contemporary homelessness is that of schooling. This collection highlights issues related to the provision of an education to homeless children and youths. Background information is offered, with an analysis of educational policy relating to homeless children. Practical strategies and a review of successful programs to help the homeless are offered. The following 13 chapters are grouped into sections on the educational context, overcoming barriers to education, and access and equity issues: (1) "The Background: History and Problems of Schooling for the Homeless" (J. H. Stronge); (2) "The Legal Context: From Access to Success in Education for Homeless Children and Youth" (V. M. Helm); (3) "The Psychosocial Context: Supporting Education for Homeless Children and Youth" (C. C. Tower); (4) "The Context of Family: Implications for Educating Homeless Children" (M.
