AbstractDesigned to provide Quebec's community colleges with more precise information and a better understanding of their educational options, this report presents a description and analysis of the educational systems for the 12th through 14th years of schooling in England, France, Germany, Norway, the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Ontario, and the United States. Introductory material explains the methods used to collect and analyze the data on each school system. Next, individual chapters present information on each country or province, focusing for each on the following topics: (1) general organization, including information on governance, finances, legal authorization, and other background information or educational features specific to the particular country or province; (2) curricula and instruction, including information on programs and curriculum tracks, pedagogy, instructional resources and evaluation; (3) faculty and student characteristics; and (4) current issues and questions for the future. Concluding comments present general impressions of the study in terms of the complexities of and differences between the educational systems studied, the desired relation between general education and professional training, and the dialectic that exists between awareness of a system and the ability to control its development. A bibliography of approximately 300 items in both French and English is included. (AC)
