AbstractThis document is intended to help secondary home economics teachers incorporate social studies principles into their curriculum. After an introduction, the document is divided into three sections. The first section identifies and explains fundamental principles within social studies and covers the history and current state of the social studies curriculum. Then it lists social studies concepts and skills in economics, history, government and politics, geography, psychology, sociology, and anthropology. The bulk of the document consists of tables that relate each identified social studies concept and skill to explanations and examples of how it can be integrated into the home economics curriculum. The second section suggests integrated learning and evaluation experiences in the following areas: child development; consumer economics; family health; family life; food science and nutrition; housing; management; managing work and family; textiles and apparel; and the world of work. Section 3 provides teaching aids that illustrate the following concepts: (1) market economy; (2) governmental checks and balances; (3) the research process; (4) types of economic systems; (5) Erikson's stages of life; (6) social norms; and (7) categories of resources. There are 23 references and an index. (CML)
