Abstract | Eight social studies educators from various African countries completed their masters degrees in education from the Indiana University School of Education during the 1990-91 school year. This report describes the program, including the selection process, the master of science in education program, specialized courses, social studies organizations, personnel, support services, textbooks, computer literacy, academic success, and closing ceremonies. Issues relating to acculturation are discussed and feature the topics setting, orientation, liaisons, housing, stipend, participant income tax, Moore Foundation Grant, transportation, health, health insurance, field trips, international center, African Student Association, religion, friendships, informal group gatherings, re-entry session, and departure period. An evaluation of the program is offered and recommendations made. Some 29 appendices concerning various aspects of the program are included. (DB) |
