Abstract	This booklet for parents explains what children learn in preschools that employ the Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood and the ways in which learning can be reinforced at home. The first sections of the booklet explain the goals and philosophy of experience-based preschools. Goals include teaching children to love reading and school and to be independent and self-confident. The preschool philosophy underscores active learning and deemphasizes memorization and testing. Specific objectives are discussed in terms of social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Information about what the child is learning when he or she is engaged in particular activities, such as playing, pretending, or following instructions is presented in a chart. The organization of the physical environment and the daily schedule of the preschool are discussed. Examples of adult verbal responses to children's behavior that reinforce learning are offered. Discussion then turns to what children learn in the home and ways for parents to reinforce that learning. Scenarios for the dining room, living room, kitchen, child's bedroom, bathroom, and areas outside the house are described. For each locale, examples of parent and child activities are presented, as are comments that parents can make to maximize the learning potential and outcomes.
