Abstract | Writing must receive major emphasis in teaching-learning situations. There are important differences between creative endeavors and those that involve role learning and exact answers. Creativity emphasizes the novel, the unique, the original, and the open-ended. Creativity should stress writing across the curriculum, and should involve reading and writing both prose and poetry. Writing tall tales is an example of prose composition that stimulates creativity. Ample opportunities should also be provided within the school day for students to write poetry, a highly creative endeavor. A variety of kinds of poems may be written, and poetry read and written by learners should be enjoyed. Students also need to have meaningful reasons for writing. Learning opportunities must stimulate creative writing, and individual differences must be given adequate provision so that each student may develop feelings of creativity and creative endeavor.
