| Abstract | Few efforts have been made to inject teachers' voices into discussions on school restructuring. Qualitative, in-depth interviews were conducted with 14 teachers to ascertain what the "average" teacher thinks about restructuring. The majority of interviewees held positive perceptions about restructuring, but opinions differed on the feasibility of changing schools. Hopes for interdisciplinary curriculums integrated across time and subject matter and for school climates that fostered a sense of unity were widespread. Teachers also expressed desires for more freedom to teach what they think is best and additional support personnel. Almost all teachers felt that more social and academic benefits would be available to students as a result of restructuring. The interview questionnaire is appended. (26 references) (EJS) |
