Abstract | This resource book is one of a series of three information resources containing ideas about instructional technology applications and how certain technology applications may have particular relevance to vocational education. It also presents issues important for vocational educators to consider in using instructional technologies. The handbook is divided into seven chapters. Following an introduction in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 provides a background in instructional technology in general, with a focus on defining the concept. Chapter 3 describes the results of a survey about instructional technology applications in vocational education in Illinois. The chapter also provides an inventory of sources for more information about technology applications in vocational education throughout the nation. The remaining four chapters contain descriptions and analyses of four instructional technology applications that are relevant to the future of vocational education: video, microcomputers, interactive video, and integrated information systems. Each chapter contains a description of a technology, an analysis of its potentials and limitations, and ideas about how a given technology might be used to enhance the quality and effectiveness of vocational education programs.
