Abstract | This report describes the procedures and accomplishments of the first year of a multiyear project to develop a "2 + 2" articulated training program in health careers that links the last 2 years of secondary and the first 2 years of postsecondary training to prepare students for employment in one or more occupations. A related goal for this project is to develop an evaluation, student monitoring, and follow-up system. The Instructional System Development (ISD) model was selected as a design conducting the project. Step one of the model provided for conducting analytical studies that determine inputs and outputs of the subsystems and formed the beginning point for curriculum development. Step two of the model initiated the planning and development of the curriculum, courses, instructional materials, and job performance and standards. The document describes four tasks conducted during the first year: (1) organization of a technical advisory committee; (2) design of a 2 + 2 articulated curriculum program; (3) preparation of final recommended student prerequisites for each basic course outline; and (4) project evaluation. The 2 + 2 articulated curriculum for the registereed nurse include: (1) a brief description of registered nursing occupation; (2) the basic curriculum objective; (3) course titles in sequential order by grade level; (4) course descriptions; (5) course prerequisites; (6) supporting academic courses; and (7) employment levels from different exit points in the curriculum. Three appendices--minutes of the technical advisory committee meetings, community occupational survey form, and profile of nursing competencies--are included. A brief third party evaluation report is also included. (NLA) |
