Abstract | This publication provides instructors with materials for an export management specialist (EMS) training program. The objective of the training program is to assist companies in reaching their export goals by educating current and potential managers about the basics of exporting. It provides a foundation for considering international trade and for organizing export activities. Each of the 22 units contains some or all of these components: unit objectives; suggested activities; specific objectives that provide the content; supplements that help participants apply unit objectives to specific needs of their export operations and provide information needed to complete an assignment; assignments; quick checks for self-evaluation; and assignment and quick check answers. Units cover introduction to exporting; export potential; introduction to market research; foreign trade data sources; market barriers; international marketing plan; export sales; promotion; service after the sale; risks in export sales; terms of sale; financing; payment and collection; export documents and the movement of goods; export packing; insurance; U.S. export regulations and licensing requirements; antiboycott compliance; Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other issues; dispute prevention and resolution; in-house regulatory compliance programs; and export organization.
