AbstractTwo of Unesco's major education programs, the universalizaation of basic education and literacy education, have emphasized the need for teachers trained in their particular disciplines and pedagogical techniques. Developing countries, faced with a shortage of qualified teachers, have realized that they cannot rely solely on the formal education system to achieve universal education. The needs of the developing countries call for a re-examination of the training and upgrading of teachers to keep them in step with advances being made in adult training in general. Adult programs that employ experiential learning have been successful because they are relevant and adapted to the needs of the individual. Learning through experience, or experiential learning, involves a range of principles, strategies, and pedagogical methods that place the individual at the center of the learning process. Basic notions about experiential learning are described as well as a number of methods and techniques that can be employed to encourage the trainee's personal development. The key to success in this method is involvement in practical activities and systematization of experience. (JD)
