AbstractFederal legislation, such as the Education Amendments of 1976 and the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act of 1984, recognizes the urgent national need for vocational programs that adequately serve limited-English-proficient (LEP) persons. In order to meet the need, vocational teacher education programs must be adapted to train preservice teachers to work with LEP persons in vocational education programs. Because requiring additional coursework is undesirable, curricular infusion is regarded as the most effective and realistic method to achieve this. The Bilingual Vocational Instructor Training (BVIT) Train the Trainers Project was conducted to provide inservice training to preservice trainers (vocational teacher educators) to help them infuse LEP-related content into their existing courses. During the project, content for such courses was identified, and a manual for infusion and adaptation was written. Guidelines were developed for adapting: foundations courses; methods courses; course construction/curriculum planning courses; and special needs courses. (A 22-item annotated bibliography was developed and is contained in this document along with the guidelines.) (KC)
