AbstractThis document contains business and office occupations-related materials to help teachers and parents teach access skills to Missouri junior high and high school special needs students who want to pursue a vocational program in secretarial and office technology, bookkeeping, accounting, and payroll, or data entry. Access skills are defined as those skills needed to access vocational education programs and be successful in the world of work. An introduction explains this document's relationship to other documents about Missouri vocational education and describes the document's contents. Competencies for the business and office program area appear next, along with access skills checklists on which teachers can record student competence in the secretarial and clerical, bookkeeping and accounting, and data entry areas. An occupational glossary follows those checklists. The next three sections contain competency lists and instructional activities relevant to the chosen vocation. The activities cover each of the five major areas (math, physical demands and working environment, aptitudes, temperament, and vocational) of Missouri's Vocational Readiness Inventory. Teacher and student worksheets are included. The next five sections are instructional modules that teach computer awareness; using a dictionary; capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling; typing; and communicating on the telephone. The modules include task analysis sheets and directions for instruction. The document concludes with a 49-item resource list. (CML)
