Abstract | This facilitator's guide and participant packet were designed to teach women how the U.S. economic system works and were developed by a coalition of more than 40 national religious groups working toward economic justice for women. The facilitator's guide consists of a section explaining the coalition, a section on the development of the materials as part of the Economic Literacy Project, an introduction to the materials, directions for conducting six instructional sessions, and a chart labelled Facilitator's Sample Structure. The titles of the sessions are Making Connections with Ourselves as Economic Persons; Reflecting on Women and Work: Paid and Unpaid Labor; Reflecting on Women and Work: The International Economy; Making the Economic Linkages; Connecting Our Values and the Economic Reality of Women; and Social Action: Determining Your Own Action Possibilities. The directions for how to conduct each session include goals, advance preparation, required materials, instructional activities, and evaluation activities. The participant's packet consists of a section explaining the coalition; a section on the development of the materials as part of the Economic Literacy Project; an introduction; guides to the six sessions; three modules of reading material called Where Does Income Come From?, How Does the Labor Market Work?, and Why Don't We Have Full Employment?; a glossary; worksheets for the sessions; a 25-item annotated bibliography that includes videotapes and music as well as printed materials; and an evaluation form.
