AbstractThis manual outlines a time-limited group intervention for children in grades 4 and 5 who are experiencing parental divorce. Part A, "Overview and Program Organization" (Neil Kalter), includes an introduction to the manual, an overview of developmental facilitation groups, and a discussion on group organization. Part B presents guidelines and content for discussion leaders of children's sessions: (1) "Session 1: Introductions and Group Story-telling" (Jeffrey Pickar); (2) "Session 2: Pre-divorce Fighting between Parents" (Milton Schaefer); (3) "Session 3: Parents Tell the Children about Their Separation" (Katherine Okla); (4) "Alternative Session A: Custody Issues: The Court Scene" (Steven Rubin); (5) "Alternative Session B: Visiting Issues: Awaiting the Noncustodial Parent; A Weekend with the Noncustodial Parent; Returning to the Custodial Parent; A Group Letter to an Uninvolved Noncustodial Parent" (Jonathan Falk and Marci Gittleman); (6) "Alternative Session C: Remarriage and Stepparenting Issues: Mother Tells the Children of Her Plans to Remarry; Family Dinner with the Prospective Stepfather and His Children; The Role of the Stepparent" (Dana Alpern); (7) "Session 7: The Group Newspaper" (Shelly Schreier and Mindy Markow); and (8) "Session 8: The Final Group Meeting" (Shelly Schreier and Mindy Markow). Part C discusses management issues during children's sessions. Part D presents discussions on the pre- and post-group meetings with parents and leaders, both by Neil Kalter. Part E consists of "Evaluation Design and Results" (Neil Kalter) and a brief mention of minimal feedback evaluation. References are included and a letter to parents describing the groups, a parental consent form, and examples of group newspapers are appended. (NB)
