AbstractThis document contains information, based on the instructional systems design model, about the development and delivery of a 10-minute video training program to teach college engineering technology students how to use a micrometer to measure to one thousandth of an inch. The students were taught the following: (1) to identify the parts of the micrometer; (2) the terminology associated with a micrometer; and (3) to read a micrometer. During the analysis portion of the project, an audience needs analysis was conducted; space and time constraints were evaluated; the number of trainees was set; the medium was selected; instructional goals were determined; a budget was prepared; and a project timeline was developed. During the design portion of the project, an instructional task analysis was performed; instructional objectives were developed; entry behaviors were defined; learning activities were sequenced; and evaluation was specified. During the development phase of the project, the video and printed handouts were developed, based on Gagne's nine events of instruction. After implementation, students completed a posttest and questionnaire, which assessed their reactions to the program and determined whether or not they had met the learning objectives. (The document includes a 23-item bibliography and appendices that contain audience analysis forms, a needs survey instrument, an instructional analysis form for scale reading, project planning forms, printed handouts, posttests, and the video script.)
