| Abstract | A qualitative follow-up study was conducted to determine the impacts of a program to train teachers in the use of curriculum-based vocational assessment (CBVA) for students with handicaps. The study examined the extent to which CBVA training content was used in the organization and delivery of assessment services to students with handicaps at the training sites. Four inservice and six preservice sites were included in the study; 28 vocational and special education personnel were interviewed and observed during onsite visits and by telephone. An analysis of within and across-site data revealed a pattern of increasingly comprehensive outcome levels at the sites. Findings also included the identification of key implementation variables. Three site features--the role of the system advocate, the role of the external supporters, and the nature of the work environment--appeared to be directly related to the level of training outcomes. A fourth, continued training, was found to affect implementation most markedly. A set of guidelines for training and implementation was also identified. Major recommendations included an incremental approach to training and use of a site assessment for the selection of training sites and implementation strategies.
