| Abstract | This paper is concerned with teaching about the world of work at the secondary school level in Australia. The first half of the paper investigates major changes and developments occurring in the workplace and in the school, while the second half considers the issue of support for teachers striving to increase student understanding of work. Strengths and weaknesses of several different approaches to studying the world of work are described and analyzed, followed by a study of the support in Australia for teachers who have been trying to integrate the study of work into the school curriculum. Reference is made to the "Curriculum and the World of Work" program initiated recently by a national curriculum agency. Current strategies emphasizing cooperation, collaboration, and networking are also described. It is pointed out that increased support linking professional development and curriculum development is required if the world of work is to establish and maintain a place in the mainstream curriculum.
