AbstractIntended for all those working with handicapped children, the manual provides guidelines for the understanding and implementation of P.L. 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act. Chapter 1 contains an introduction to the highlights of the law and a statement of what is required of the educational community for compliance. The next chapter provides suggestions for ways to explore the law and its implications and includes activities appropriate for training workshops. The third chapter offers activities for both students and adults to explore attitudes toward human differences. The following chapter provides a comprehensive picture of least restrictive environment designs which can be implemented as alternatives to either full-time special or full-time general education class placement with emphasis on new cooperative roles for both regular and special educators. Chapter 5 is intended to introduce the general educator to a variety of disabilities and appropriate classroom approaches. A list of agencies serving the handicapped is appended to this chapter. Finally, chapter 6 discusses materials, methods and techniques in special education and charts long term learning objectives from the elementary through high school levels. Appended are a bibliography of professional, parent and student multi-media and print materials, a list of test descriptions for the assessment of learning capabilities and disabilities, and a reprint of Public Law 94-142.
