Abstract | The activities in this booklet were designed to provide second grade children with opportunities to explore areas of natural interest to them while gaining knowledge and practice in math skills and with science processes. Seasonal activities which are appropriate for the first half of the school year are offered on the topics of: holidays, seeds and food, leaves and trees, weather and color, as well as other science-related topics. Explanations are given on graphing skills and questioning techniques and a listing of ten mathematics skills and eight science processes is also presented. Each activity consists of student sheets and a teacher's guide. Information provided for the teachers on each activity includes: (1) the topic area; (2) introductory statement; (3) the math and science skills addressed; (4) materials needed; (5) key questions; (6) background information; (7) management details; (8) instructional procedures; (9) student procedures; (10) discussion questions; (11) activity extensions; and (12) curriculum coordinates.
