Abstract | Program accomplishments for 1982-86 and plans for 1987-91 are summarized in this report. The third cycle (1982-86) program areas discussed are: (1) universalization of education (access to education at first level by both formal and nonformal means); (2) education for promotion of scientific and technological competence and creativity; (3) education and work; (4) education and rural development; (5) educational technology with stress on mass media and low-cost instructional materials; (6) professional support services and training of educational personnel; and (7) cooperative studies, reflections and research related to educational development and future orientations. New areas suggested for expansion of APEID activities are discussed and include urban education, educational administration, programs for out-of-school youth and women, new communication and information processing technologies, distance education, and nutrition education. The final section of the report considers the mechanism of APEID, its institutional framework and modalities of action, and its complementarity with the new Asia-Pacific Programme of Education for All (APPEAL). Appendices provide the meeting agenda and a directory of participants. (JHZ) |
