Abstract	This report from Texas' Austin Independent School District (AISD) contains an executive summary and a final report on the district's dropout situation at the junior and senior high school levels for the 1985-1986 school year. The current status of the high school populations of 1983-1984 and 1984-1985 is also reported. The introduction notes that a system for documenting and reporting the number of high school students who withdraw from AISD each year before graduating was initiated during the 1983-1984 school year, that junior high school students were added to the system in 1984-1985, and that a longitudinal computer file was created in 1986 which allows tracking of a student's status for 10 years beginning in the seventh grade. A general description of the classification scheme is provided. Several major findings are discussed: (1) the annual high school dropout rate for 1985-1986 was 10.7%; (2) compared to 1984-1985 rates, 1985-1986 rates were lower for Blacks, Hispanics, and Whites; (3) the annual dropout rate decreased at 10th and 11th grades, but increased at 9th and 12th grades; (4) of 1983-1984 ninth graders, 27.4% had dropped out of school by July 1986; (5) non-graduating seniors represent an extremely high-risk group of potential dropouts; and (6) the annual 1985-1986 junior high school dropout rate was 5.1%, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from 1984-1985.
