Abstract | This guide is intended to assist vocational agriculture teachers who are teaching secondary- or postsecondary-level courses in agricultural power and machinery. The materials presented are based on the Arizona validated occupational competencies and tasks for the following occupations: service manager, shop foreman, service technician, and tractor mechanic. The guide includes competency/skill task lists, an employability skills charts crosswalk, an instructor's guide to 35 validated competencies, and an annotated bibliography. Each section of the curriculum guide contains the following: competency/skill, task, performance objective (including conditions, evaluation measure, and standard), suggested student learning experiences, suggested instructional techniques, necessary instructional equipment and materials, and recommended resources. Examples of the competencies covered include the following: applies approved safety practices in servicing/repairing agricultural power and machinery; prepares new and used power and machinery for sale; inspects bearings, gears, and surfaces for excessive wear and clearance; installs gaskets, O-rings, and seals to control fluid leakage; reads and interprets parts manuals/microfiche to access/order needed parts; operates microcomputers/terminals to access computerized parts inventories; calibrates and services/repairs components and systems of tractors and traction units needed in agricultural operations; practices good interpersonal relations skills; and prepares accurate reports and documents.
