Abstract | This document contains a collection of essays written by students in General Educational Development (GED) programs. The students had dropped out of high school and are now seeking an equivalency diploma. In the essays, students discuss why they quit school, how well they did in school, what they learned there, and whether it was difficult for them in the "real world" without a diploma. They offer advice to other students who are considering dropping out of school. The essays represent a first writing assignment in Correspondence Study. They appear exactly as they were written except for names and places, which were deleted to protect the privacy of the students. Punctuation and spelling remain as in the original. These essays provide high school students who are deciding whether to graduate or drop out with a different perspective to consider when making that decision. (NB) |
