Abstract | This guide is intended to help vocational and mathematics teachers design and implement integrated mathematics-vocational education courses. The guide is organized in six sections. Following two sections containing information about the project in which the guide was developed and how to use the guide, Section III provides guidelines for organizing a mathematics equivalency credit program. Examples of course sequences provide the user with direction in selecting credit sequences. Mathematical applications by content units are provided in matrix format in Section IV. This section is divided into two parts. Part A provides a sample matrix of mathematical applications by content units in the three pilot programs involved in the project. This matrix provides examples of mathematical applications being made by teachers in Corvallis, Oregon, where the project was developed. Part B is a mathematics checklist. Completion of the checklist is the critical part of the process for integrating mathematics into vocational courses and is intended as a team effort for vocational and mathematics teachers. Section V of the guide is a list of suggested resources. The final section (appendixes) contains three examples of matrixes showing applications by courses, by program area, and by content units; an equivalency credit application; and a notice to staff regarding student registration procedures.
