AbstractThis document contains four papers presented at a panel on implications of the Holmes Group and the Carnegie Commission reports for vocational teacher education. In the first paper, Charles W. Smith discusses general issues concerning the emergence of the education reform movement and calls for vocational educators to be part of the reform discussions. In the second paper, Ruth P. Hughes reviews "Tomorrow's Teachers," the recommendations of the Holmes Group of college deans of education. She concludes that although vocational educators cannot accept without modification some suggested changes (such as a six-year program), there are other suggestions with which vocational teacher educators can work for improvement within all teacher education. The third paper, by Curtis R. Finch, has two purposes. First, it is designed to summarize and synthesize the contents of the Carnegie report, "A Nation Prepared," giving particular attention to eight major recommendations for change in education policy. Secondly, it discusses how the Carnegie report may have an impact on vocational teacher education. The final paper, by Jasper S. Lee, focuses on trends and anticipated actions in coping with the two (Holmes and Carnegie) teacher education models that have been proposed. Each of the papers contains a bibliography. (KC)
