AbstractThis training program is intended to help administrators and staff developers prepare teachers of special needs students to work more effectively with paraprofessionals--to direct and monitor their activities, to assess their contributions to the instructional process, and to use systematic procedures to improve their skills and productivity. Parts I and II, entitled "Preparing Teachers to Be Effective Supervisors and Classroom Managers," focuses first on the role of administrators, and then on the training model (based on task analyses) and the role of the trainer. Part III consists of eight training modules on the following topics: (1) management and supervision; (2) the instructional team of teacher and paraprofessional; (3) setting goals and objectives for integrating the paraprofessional into the classroom; (4) directing and delegating; (5) interpersonal problem solving; (6) communication and team building; (7) evaluating paraprofessional performance; (8) helping teacher participants develop a personalized plan for changing and improving their management skills. Each module contains instructional objectives, a brief overview of the unit, a list of materials and equipment needed, specific pre-session procedures, and suggested teaching procedures. Lecture material, instructions for small-group activities, and material for use as handouts and transparencies are included. References and additional resources are appended. (JW)
