Abstract | This guide is an annotated listing of 121 resources which are not yet available through the usual distribution channels and which might be useful to Community Development Society (CDS) members and those involved in community development. Largely produced over the last 5 years, the materials include books, chapters of books, journal articles, reports, papers, extension publications, films, and games. Entries are classified under 30 subject headings: case study, citizen participation, community, community decline, community development as a comprehensive concept, community development curriculum, community growth, community planning, community services, conflict/competition/cooperation, development, development structures, disadvantaged/minority groups, economic development, evaluation studies, industrialization, information/education/communication, institutional/agency roles, inter-community/area/regional development, leadership/capacity building, local government, organizational development, other topics, professional practice, quality of life, rapid growth/economic decline, research needs/ methodology, rural and small town development, small business, social change, and urban development. Each entry includes, when available, publication title, author, date, source address, purchase price, annotation, type and length of publication, secondary subjects, recommended use, and name and title of person recommending the resource. Since each item was recommended by a CDS member, this handbook should not be viewed as a systematic or comprehensive compilation of resources in community development. Author and index listings and a questionnaire soliciting recommendations are appended. (NEC) |
