| Abstract | This document contains guidelines for running team planning meetings for the Water and Sanitation for Health (WASH) project, a technical assistance activity of the Agency for International Development. The document is divided into two sections. Section 1 focuses on the team planning concept and the role of the facilitator. Section 2 contains the procedures for conducting each of the 10 sessions that make up the two-day planning event. The WASH team planning meeting focuses on the following elements: (1) background of the assignment, (2) identification of the clients for the assignment, (3) analysis of the scope of work, (4) definition of the end product, (5) agreement on key team issues, and (6) development of a detailed work plan. In addition to the core design for a team planning meeting, two alternative designs also are provided. One offers suggestions for preparing a single consultant for an assignment; the other offers suggestions for preparing teams that are not going overseas. Although these guidelines were developed for WASH, they are relevant to any organization that uses short-term teams and could be adapted with minor modifications for use by other organizations.
