AbstractThe handbook, an outgrowth of a project involving 8-13 year-old siblings of handicapped children and their parents, describes ways to implement sibling programs. Problems facing siblings are reviewed, including overidentification, resentment, and embarassment. Guidelines for conducting "sibshops" are offered with information on five goals, such as providing opportunities to learn more about implications of handicaps and to meet other siblings in a casual atmosphere. Suggestions are also presented for discussion activities designed for both siblings and parents. Such discussion activities for siblings include situational role playing and open discussions. Guidelines for conducting information and recreation activities are also provided. Three pages of references are included, as well as a four-page list of "Books about Handicaps for Young Readers."
