AbstractSelected characteristics and conditions of MiraCosta Adult High School Diploma Program graduates were investigated. Data were gathered from 129 respondents by a 35-item mailed questionnaire. Questions pertained to graduates' current status, analysis of their high school experience, and recommendations for improving the adult high school diploma program. The low response rate (14 percent) was due to the highly mobile graduate population, the majority of whom were members of the military. Most respondents were male. The majority used the high school diploma to secure a job or get a promotion. The majority had held one or two jobs since graduation. The basic skills class, psychology, and "all classes" were the most helpful in their jobs. An above average percentage of graduates (33 percent) were attending college, usually community colleges. The most frequent reasons for not continuing education were the need to earn money and the high cost of education. A few attended a trade, business, or night school. In postsecondary education, basic skills classes were the most helpful. The ultimate goal of the majority was a successful, self-employed profession. The majority (71 percent) were satisfied with the program. (The instrument is appended.) (YLB)
