Abstract | This guide is intended to assist home economics teachers in recognizing which learning activities reinforce basic reading, writing, mathematics, and science skills concepts. The first chapter discusses objectives in each of these four basic skills areas. The remaining chapters consist of cross-referenced lists of reading, writing, mathematics, and science competencies; learning strategies; and evaluation techniques that are applicable in the following areas of home economics instruction: family living/parenthood education; child development; foods and nutrition; clothing and textiles; housing, furnishings, and management; and personal finance/consumer education.
