Abstract | Compiled here are the following Council-related reports and papers from the 1985 general conference of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA): (1) "Trends 1983-84," which is a report to the Council by the Secretary General, Margreet Wijnstroom, and includes sections on the organization, its actions as the global voice of librarianship, publications, the Third World, core programs, professional grassroots, and finances; (2) "General Comments on the IFLA Accounts 1983 and 1984, and the Budgetary Guidelines for 1985 and 1986" (Marie-Louise Bossuat, Treasurer of IFLA, France); (3) "Background and Current Achievements of the International MARC (Machine Readable Catalog) Project-Deutsche Bibliothek (IMP-DB)" (Dieter Wolf, West Germany); (4) "Advancement of Librarianship in the Third World" (Margreet Wijnstroom, Secretary General of IFLA, The Netherlands); (5) "UAP (Universal Availability of Publications): Progress Report" (Stephen C.
