Abstract | Intended as a practical tool for high school classroom teachers, the manual examines career objectives and activities for handicapped students. An introduction presents the eight goals of career education. A chapter on assessment provides sample instruments and information from a vocational evaluation unit. Extensive material in chapter 3 is devoted to Individualized Education Program objectives, suggested activities, and materials/resources for such areas as practical reading, practical math, health, self-concept, exploration of job types, interviewing techniques, and independent living skills. Instructional materials, media, and methods are described in chapter 4. These include role playing, brainstorming, and field trips. The next chapter examines work training stations as well as evaluation measures for student performance at those stations. A chapter on community resources lists service groups in the local (Southern California) area. Suggestions are offered for removing bias and stereotyping, and the manual concludes with a vocabulary list. (CL) |
