AbstractA survey of Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) employees was conducted to identify the strengths and weaknesses of internal communications at CCS, to determine the colleges' image among their employees, to evaluate the colleges' delivery system, and to provide information regarding future directions. Survey results, based on responses from a total sample of 472 employees, included the following: (1) employees rated themselves and college administrators higher on individual communication than on group communication; (2) accuracy of information given to students prior to enrollment was rated low; (3) employees tended to have more favorable attitudes about their immediate supervisors and about college administrators than about district administration; (4) employees rated their own skills higher than that of their supervisors, college administration, and district administration; (5) part-time employees were more satisfied with CCS than full-time employees; (6) classified staff were less satisfied than other employees with advancement opportunities; (7) employees were generally satisfied with job assignments; (8) part-time employees were less satisfied than full-time employees with job security; (9) employees believed the institution was properly recognized by the public and area high schools; (10) CCS was perceived to be fulfilling its mission and goals; (11) the most frequently mentioned concern was with the level of respect for individuals by district administration; and (12) almost 50% of the employees felt various quarterly schedules should be consolidated. The survey instrument is appended. (LAL)
