AbstractThis document contains transcripts of testimony and prepared statements from the Congressional hearing called to examine the effects of alcoholism on children and families. Testimonies are presented from the director of the Alcoholism Control Administration, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; the medical director of the Alcoholism and Compulsive Gambling Programs; the vice president (programs) of the National Federation of Parents for Drug-Free Youth; vice-chairperson of the Florida Governor's Commission on Drug and Alcohol Concerns; a juvenile court judge from Ohio; the presiding justice of the Quincy District Court, Quincy, Massachusetts; the administrator of the Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Administration, Department of Health and Human Services; and from recovering alcoholics and parents of alcoholics. Topics covered include the causes of alcoholism, the need for education at all levels about the causes and consequences of drinking, state and federal efforts to promote substance abuse prevention and education, and treatment needs of children and families involved in alcohol abuse. The appendix contains the prepared statements, letters, and supplemental materials submitted for the record. (MCF)
