Abstract	In an effort to assess the overall fringe benefit programs of community college districts in California and to determine the dollar amounts paid certificated employees, fringe benefit and salary remuneration were calculated for all 70 districts in the state. Study findings included the following: (1) 13 districts offered a "cafeteria plan," whereby employees are given a choice of options for the expenditure of a specific amount of money set aside for fringe benefits; (2) 6 districts with "cafeteria plans" required health insurance as part of the package; (3) 56 districts provided health insurance coverage for employees and dependents; (4) 34 districts provided long-term disability or income protection coverage; (5) 65 districts participated in some sort of dental plan with considerable variation in the amount of district contribution; (6) 56 districts reported that life insurance premiums were paid as part of their fringe benefit package; (7) 32 districts provided vision insurance; (8) 2 districts offered tax-sheltered annuities; and (9) between spring 1984 and spring 1985, salaries plus fringe benefits increased by 5.55 percent. Tables present data on spring 1985 employee fringe benefits by college district and rank the districts according to fringe benefits and minimum salary for employees with a master's degree, without a doctorate, and with a doctorate.
